Success

You can be successful with anything. You can literally be successful with anything that you put your mind to. Although the results of success are mostly seen from the perspective of the top of the iceberg, very rarely do we pay attention to what goes on at the bottom of the iceberg. It’s about how. How did you make it to where you wanted to be? It’s a matter of making a plan and sticking to that plan until you see the results you have been looking for.  I want to highlight some of the key components when it comes to achieving success. Those components are Discipline and Persistence. I believe that most of every action and or step that it takes to reach success falls under the umbrella of these two principles. The more disciplined you are, the more persistent you’ll be. Discipline requires sacrifice, late nights, and hard work according to the examples given in the picture above. Sometimes you have to sacrifice sleep, which then leads to late nights. And from that sacrifice...

God vs Money

We can talk about God’s blessings all day, but if the success you’ve gained was obtained immorally in the sight of God, then it wasn’t God that gave you that success. It was yourself. What if I told you that you could gain the whole world without God’s help and lose your soul in the process? What if I told you that just because it looks good, it doesn’t mean it’s God? What if I told you that your swollen pockets aren’t necessarily a sign that God is “in the blessing business?” The reality is that people (Christians included) have made money their God, and it’s impossible to serve God and money. God isn’t the author of quick fixes and fast money. In fact true blessings are obtained through the obedience of the one who loves God, serves God and puts God first in a way that honors Him. So what master do you serve? The dollar? Or Jesus? "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You ca...

Opinion vs Truth

Sometimes we mix our personal beliefs with the word of God. We misinterpret the meaning of certain scripture because we’re filtering the truth through our emotions. If only we could get to a place where our perceptions submit to the truth of the word of God rather than allowing our own feelings and personal agendas to twist its original meaning for our own selfish gain. That’s called heresy. When your opinion trumps the word of God, you miss out on what He’s originally been trying to communicate to you. Truth hurts, even cuts sometimes (Hebrews 4:12). But I’d rather truth than a faulty belief or opinion. Because ultimately, the Truth Himself will set you free. For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. | Hebrews 4:12  ~ Jesus answered,  “I am  the way  and the truth  an...

Traffic Jam

So I was sitting in traffic today and I was the happiest I could ever be. Now I know I know, traffic isn't the greatest gift to mankind. The science of traffic continues to amaze me as to how and why it takes so long to get from point A to point B in 45 minutes when on a good day, it would usually take 5 minutes. Traffic felt a little different today though. Sure I had somewhere to be and yes I was stuck in the dead center of it, but I was content. I had my Snarky Puppy going, Vitamin water in the cup-holder. Couldn't complain! While being stuck in the middle of traffic and being the happiest black man in the world I thought to myself, "Why am I so happy in the middle of this traffic jam?" The answer was found in my focus.       Now usually when I get caught up in the 5 o'clock rush I'm always looking around trying to see where I can make my next move. I'm usually trying to see if I can get ahead of other cars, scoping out the...

Gifted

You were gifted with a gift.  You were created with a passion Designed for a purpose, not for form or fashion. You were gifted with a gift Bigger than your mistakes It waits in eager anticipation Your purpose never waits. You were gifted with a gift The time is now The world needs your story But the question is how? You were gifted with a gift Yet the gift may be hidden It seems nonexistent  Almost bed ridden. You were gifted with a gift It's time to bring it to life It may seem irrelevant But someone needs your light. You were gifted with a gift Your life He did save Your sins washed away Your purpose doth made. I know you've been slept on It was all for a reason But hear me when I say Tomorrow is your season. So for today fear not For growth takes time For now, use what you got In His Will, you'll be just fine.

Not A Bird Box

We like to put things in a box. No not just literally but metaphorically. We've all at some point or another suffered from being categorized and or stereotyped by other people who just couldn't quite "figure us out." Sometimes people who can't fully understand you might put you in a small little cardboard box (metaphorically speaking of course) to fit their reality of understanding. It's not that you're a phenomenon. It may just be because your personalities clash. Maybe they just straight up don't like you.  Yet it would be impossible to figure each other out. When was the last time you were able to read someone's thoughts? When was the last time you were in fact confident in the exact number of hairs that are on the top of someone's head? Unless of course......they're bald. (insert laugh here) We weren't created to have someone totally figured out. We weren't created to understand everything nor were we created to solve all...

abiding in christ

abiding in christ In this lesson we will learn what it means to abide in Christ Lesson Verse: If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. | John 15:7 ·          Question 1: Do you want to see everyone make it to heaven? Abide: To remain; to reside; to submit to -         Abiding means to rest in the vine. We must be united to the vine. If we aren’t united to the vine, nothing will come to us.Think of God like this: He’s the vine and we’re the branches. In order for the branches to grow, they need a source. That source is the vine. We were created to bear fruit, and the purpose of that fruit is for the building and strengthening of God’s heavenly kingdom here on earth -           If we are to bear fruit, we have to be plugged in to the source. Jesus is the true plug. Trust in the Lord with all yo...

If Jesus is the gate, what do you think it is that we are entering into? In John 1:14, it goes on to say that the Word became human and made his home among us. The Word that this scripture is referring to is Jesus Christ. Jesus was with God in the beginni...

treasure

treasure In this lesson we will be examining the heart as it relates to the treasure of a person’s heart. Lesson Verse: A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. | Luke 6:45 ·          Question 1 : What is treasure? Treasure is anything that you value. It becomes treasure when it is stored or kept away in secret. The focus of this scripture is pointing out the treasures of our hearts. These are the things that we have stored within our minds. These are the things that we value, show concern for, like, dislike, etc. They are ultimately your heart’s desires. ·          Question 2 : What are some things that are near and dear to you? "For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of." Do you want to know how I know what you care...
